"We have allowed a conflict between Russia and Ukraine on the Eurasian steppe to spiral out of control."
And before that, we provoked Russia by expanding NATO to its borders (in violation of the commitments we made after the fall of the Soviet Union), conducting a color revolution to drive out the Russia-friendly Ukrainian government in 2014, and sending our idiot VP in country to speechify about Ukraine's membership in NATO while Russian forces were amassed on the border.
NATO doesn't go out and solicit countries to join. The countries ask to join NATO and probably for protection against what's going on. After the fall of the Soviet Union, many countries that were in the old Soviet Block joined a "Partnership For Peace" which was a percussor to being a NATO member. This started back in the early 90's. With the current leadership in Moscow, if I had a bad neighbor, I'd like protection too.
Yeah, the 101st in in close proximity. Maybe just as a show of support. Doubt they would be used unless there are extreme circumstances.
After what has been going on for the pass two years what exactly would be extreme circumstances? I am gently asking because of all I have seen these past two years.
I agree, the past two years have been unbelievable.
Many times US Forces will be deployed in areas where conflicts have arisen, or where conflicts are currently going on. In the first case, it is to deter countries from taking action and starting a conflict or war.
In the second situation where a conflict is in progress, it is to deter the countries from expanding the current situation to neighboring areas. It's basically to show the will of the US to get involved, if necessary.
Respectfully. I understand what you have said. We don’t want conflicts around the world. We want peace, negotiations, integrity, recognition and a whole host of other attributes, but why should this be America’s job. I look at our race relations, religious strife, our conflicts on our own soil. How can we tell other countries how to work together when we are not. If we tell another country what to do, our history and pattern indicates if they listen to us they would be worse off not better. I don’t know if it is our responsibility to be the policeman of the world. I say this because we each have our own prejudices, and flaws. I know that we have a wealth of experience in this country and we like to help other achieve the same in their country. but we came of age as a country in a very basic time in our history. Nations now have all sorts of conflicting interests, voices wanting to be heard and have an impact on where their country goes. Not to mention religion, weapons of all sorts, preconceived ideas, etc.
Right now within our country there is a conflict of ideas from people who live on the coasts East/West and the states in the middle. They don’t have the same experiences, points of references, prejudices, flaws, maybe even education. I guess it all boils down to how can we police the world when we as a nation can’t agree on anything? We have left more countries in the lurch than better off (Afghanistan, Iraq,) We, I am sad to say are just as corrupt as the communists, and the past two years, and probably since Clinton we are seeing, witnessing and experiencing the collapse of our country.
I am not being disrespectful to you and please don’t see it as such. It is just I am glad we never had kids, we moved to the “fly over states” from the east coast, and being “of a certain age” the questions I ask is because nothing and I do mean nothing is simple. There are consequences to every decision, and unintended consequences. Sometimes you have to hit rock bottom to rebuilt a better world. Truly being respectful and acknowledging that you may very well have a completely different experience and perspective. Think of this as a conversation between two old friends.
Thank you for your comments. I don’t want conflicts either and I wish that we could all get along with each other, then there is Human Nature, which makes people who they are. I don’t know your background or experiences. I’m up in my age and served our nation in the military for a while, both in combat and peacetime. I had a couple I ran into that saw my hat I wore that eludes to my military service. He came across that I was a War Monger. I told him that in 2,000+ years, you would have thought that man would have figured this out by now. As many problems that this Nation has had, I will put it up against any Nation. We didn’t do to the people what Hitler and Stalin and many other leaders did to citizens that didn’t agree with the government. As far as being the “Policeman” of the world, I agree, but what other country is strong enough to keep the totalitarian countries from just taking over? We tried to stay out of many conflicts; WWI and WWII among others and we ended up in them anyway, sometimes way too late which caused greater sacrifices. It’s better to prevent a war, then have to get into one. Remember, we soldiers just don’t decide one day to pick up weapons and go to war. Our Politicians get us into them. I was over in Germany when the Wall went down. You should have seen the condition of the old Soviet Bloc countries. Pathetic! I have been to a lot of countries. In all my travels I have found only two kinds of people; Good People and Bad People. I wish we could all have peace and people ask me that about Armies, etc. If we could get rid of Armies, then we should be able to get rid of the Police Forces, but look where we are with the defunding. I also have never seen this country get as bad as it has in so quick a time. It’s not because of Bad decisions only, it’s also because of a lack of action on governmental agencies which I feel more that it’s a willful lack of action. I live in a border state and I’ll tell you, It’s Really Bad!! I never mind someone’s opinion and yes you are very respectful and I hope I am also. I’ve enjoyed the conversation.

I know that things are grim right now. I was born in 1959 and I remember a lot of things going on. I remember marches against the war on tv, riots when MLK died, various recessions, and a certain belief that America was the good guy in the white hat.
I understand that a certain amount of military and police force is necessary. I believe in consequences to one’s actions, and I certainly do no wish a one world government because each country has religious, ethnic, historical richness that makes them who they are. I understand that the United States is a beacon of light for many. I want to embrace their differences and incorporate them into the history of the United States. I would like to never see another Germany, Bosnia, Iraq, Afghanistan but I believe that is wishful thinking. I also believe that there are times when we are going to have to step in and step up. I get the impression that these days the actual reasoning behind the conflicts is clouded by people who want more money, a bigger house, status, and contempt for others. I honestly don’t know whose reality they are viewing, what they want, or their agenda.
I have valid concerns about China, Russia, North Korea and other nations that we are not on good terms with, they too have valid concerns about us. I wish we could start to limit lots of bioweapons, nuclear weapons, chemical weapon and weapons of mass destructions. But how can we? The statements to get us anywhere is filled with loopholes on both sides.
I live now in a small town in Texas. Our police force is not equip to deal with community issues much less immigration issues. We have a sheriff very close by, and we have folks like my husband who offer assistance if needed. If there is a major or even minor event he will go to help, he is active in so many ways. I am very proud of him. I am proud of my country too, right now it is one of two things America is either a sullen teenager figuring out where they fit in the world, and having a lot of bad influences or it is two parents thinking of divorce because they can no longer stand the sight of one another. I never thought I would see what I am seeing today. I fear what I will come tomorrow.
So, a small Texas town. Any day you’re in Texas, it’s a good day. I lived there for a while and was a Texas resident for a long time until I got a job and moved to Arizona. I have friends all over the state, to include a friend who lives in a small town where he calls it, “The Big Empty.” If Texas becomes it’s own country again, I’m moving back.
America is still “The Beacon on the Hill.” The problem is, too many people are selling it out for a buck. There is no loyalty anymore and there are forces that are trying to destroy this country and you are seeing the results.
Unfortunately, there will always be conflicts. As far as weapons go, you can’t put the Genie back in the bottle. I keep telling people that I’m glad I’m at the age I’m at.
If you haven’t read the “Federalist Papers”, you need to look at them. They are thoughts our Founding Fathers wrote down about why they put the things they did in the Constitution. Also, if you haven’t seen the movies “Soylent Green” and the original version of “Rollerball”, they are depictions of what we’re headed to. Soylent Green was made in 1972 and depicts New York in 2022. The only thing they don’t have is all the electronic wizardry like the internet and surveillance cameras all over.
All it would take to bring this country to a halt would be to shut down the internet and the card paying system for purchases. We’ll see what happens with the elections, but I am very concerned.
Since when has this administration been following the Constitution??
