Since Putin signed his economic and military pact with CCP’s Xi, where and how does CCP decision approval for Russia to use any form of nuclear weapon on the battlefield come into play?

Hmm. I don't see the Ukraine war as you do. I see the Russians re-forming, re-fitting, massively increasing the force level and mobilizing for a new kind of war that we saw first evidence of in the past few days. They have many T80 tanks and 1000lb precision missile systems making their way to Ukraine as we speak. Up until now, the Russians haven't used typical Russian doctrine. I think we are going to see a change and I think what's left of the Ukraine military is going to dissolve before it. Russia is going to stand off and level the ground ahead indiscriminately, there will be hundreds of thousands of casualties civilian and military if Zelenskyy does not relent and relinquish the east and Crimea to Russia. He will give him one more chance to regain his sanity. And then Putin will level Ukraine. It's going to be the most horrific military slaughter in a Western nation since WWII.

I believe the nuke posturing is just that, posturing. Just as we won't put our troops on the ground or have Ukraine join NATO - what, we are going to go to nukes with Russia is they use a battlefield nuke in Ukraine? Nope, we won't and I don't want us to.

You are more informed than me on geopolitics so I'm probably wrong but there it is. Huge fan, new sub, keep it coming!

I appreciate the posts here but struggle with the significant contradictions between Putin’s strategy and success (failure) in Ukraine as described here vs. alternative sources as both cannot be right:

I would also add that there was a brief period where the Kerensky government, which immediately succeeded the last Tsar, did introduce what were then cutting edge liberal reforms. Sadly he could not survive the Bolsheviks and Lenin leading to the mass murderer Stalin who you rightly name:

I keep seeing so many politician, counties, leaders poking the bear to make him react. He may react in ways that we can not imagine. It almost seems like whomever wants to see how bad, bad is. Will there be nuclear winters, will populations be destroyed, will there be even more famine, violence, countries breaking down? For what purpose? I consider myself a very middle American and things are getting really dicey for lots of folks. Why can’t we take care of our own first, set goals we can agree on, stop the harming of one another in the name of science, culture, religion, or welfare. Why is everything made so contentious, angry, crazy? Why are we living like this? Why are solid voices with a history of knowledge, experience, dealing with reality being silenced, muted and threatened with the loss of their livelihood? I keep hearing Marvin Gaye singing “what’s going on?”
